Doing Your Own Acrylic Nails: A Step-by-Step Guide to Salon-Quality Manicures at Home
There are two main types of acrylic nail systems: liquid-and-powder systems and gel systems.
Liquid-and-powder systems are the most traditional type of acrylic nail system. They involve mixing a liquid monomer with a powder polymer to create a paste that is applied to the nails.
Gel systems are a newer type of acrylic nail system that uses a gel-based product instead of a liquid monomer. Gel systems are typically more expensive than liquid-and-powder systems, but they are also more durable and less likely to chip or break.

- File the surface of the acrylic nails. This will help the acetone to penetrate the acrylic and dissolve it more quickly.
- Soak your nails in acetone. Fill a bowl with acetone and soak your nails for 10-15 minutes.
- Gently push off the acrylic. Once the acrylic has softened, you should be able to gently push it off your nails with a cuticle pusher.
