Synopsis
In the depths of the Terezin concentration camp, a young Jewish girl named Friedl Dicker-Brandeis defied the horrors she witnessed by secretly creating a masterpiece painting. Sparrow in Terezin is the extraordinary true story of Friedl's life and her art.
When the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia in 1939, Friedl was a successful artist and teacher. She was forced to flee her home and eventually ended up in Terezin, a camp where Jews were sent before being deported to death camps.
Despite the unimaginable suffering she endured, Friedl refused to give up her art. She secretly gathered scraps of paper and pencils and began to draw and paint. Her subjects were the people she saw around her: the children, the elderly, the sick, and the dying.
Friedl's paintings are a testament to the human spirit's ability to withstand even the most horrific circumstances. They are a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.
